Alexandra Helmig
Alexandra Helmig was born on 15.02.1975 in Düsseldorf, Germany. After her French studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, she started her education as an actress at Schauspielstudio Hamburg. 1999 she finished her studies by aquiring the state-approved ZBF diploma. In the course of her education, she played at Kammerspiele Hamburg next to Mehmet Kurtulus in „Wilde Liebe“/Wild Love, was discovered by Ulrich Tukur to play the role of Lillian alongside him in „Die drei von der Tankstelle“/Three friends and a gas station at Theater Altona and started her TV career in the successful series „Freunde fürs Leben“/Friends for Life (ZDF). Since then, Alexandra has starred in various movies and TV movies, amongst others as Christoph M. Ohrt’s girlfriend in the Sat.1 movie „Ein Teufel für Familie Engel“/ A devil for the Angel family, and as Annette Frier’s best friend in the criminal comedy „Peggy – Die Schnüfflerin kann’s nicht lassen“/Peggy – the snooper can’t help it.
In 2002, Alexandra Helmig passed the selection procedure for the participation at MANUSCRIPTUM (creative writing seminar) at University Munich. In 2004, she was invited to participate in the workshop days of the Eckenroth foundation for playwrights. In 2006, Alexandra was invited to participate in the author’s theater days of Thalia Theater Hamburg with her play Leila Surana, followed in 2007 by an invitation to participate in the workshop days of Burgtheater Vienna in collaboration with the Germany Literary Fund. In 2008, the theater project „The German Mother“, to which Helmig contributed several „really mean, funny monologues about the female infantilization on the playground“ (Süddeutsche Zeitung) and in which she also acted, was premiered in the Muffathalle Munich. In the same year, Alexandra Helmig was also awarded the promotion prize of the German provincial theaters for her conversational play „or Argentina“. The play had its successful premiere at Theater Hof and was invited to participate in the 28th Bavarian Theater Days. In 2009, Alexandra Helmig participated in a three-month scriptwriting program at the New York Film Academy and wrote her first screenplay. In 2010, Alexandra Helmig was part of the Jury for the newcomer promotion award of the Fünf-Seen-Festival.
Alexandra Helmig is currently writing a screenplay for the movie "Lua's magic world" (working title), together with movie director Jaqueline Zünd. The movie is supported by the Federal Culture Office of Switzerland and the Zurich Film Foundation.
Alexandra Helmig works as an actress and author for theater, film and television. She lives with her family in Munich.
